Quick measures

Common shapes, pre-built, editable afterwards.

A quick measure builds a complete, correct formula from a short form, for the shapes people need most often.

Why use one

  • The common patterns — share of total, running total, year-on-year change — have details that are easy to get subtly wrong.
  • They are a good way to learn the builder: create one, then open it and look at how it is put together.

They are not a special kind of measure

A quick measure produces an ordinary measure. Once created it can be opened, edited, extended and renamed like any other. There is no separate category of "quick" measures in the model — the gallery is a starting point, not a container.

When to build by hand instead

When your question is not one of the shapes offered. The gallery covers common cases well and does not try to cover everything; a formula that nearly fits is worth building properly rather than bending a template into.
