Bookmarks and buttons

Save a view, then let a button take readers to it.

A bookmark captures the current state of a page — filters, slicer selections, which visuals are showing — under a name you choose.

What they are for

  • Saving the two or three views people ask for repeatedly, so nobody rebuilds them by hand.
  • Building a guided path through a dashboard: a set of buttons that step a reader through a story.
  • Providing a reset — a bookmark of the default state, one click away, so an over-filtered page is always recoverable.

Buttons

A button can apply a bookmark, navigate to a page, or open a link. Combined with hidden pages, that is enough to build genuine navigation — a landing page of choices, each leading somewhere specific.

A pattern worth copying

Add a Reset button to any page with more than two slicers. Readers filter themselves into an empty page constantly, and without a reset their next move is to reload and lose everything.
